Certificate of Copyright Registration and Deposit .....Registration No 0-2016-0492 ...: Title: Application of Science and Technology to Natural Farming and Organic Agriculture System. ..Period of  Protection.. Life of  the author and for fifty (50) years after death/
The APPLICATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO NATURAL FARMING AND ORGANIC AGRICULTURE SYSTEM is designed to assist individuals and communities produce food at least effort and least cost. This will result in a stress free living and promote a peaceful life. The principles embedded in the application of technologies will become the basis for team work and communicating as mature individuals. Learning process is peer-learning using adult learning principles.
The list of action activities below consists of knowledge and skills that consolidate technologies in horticulture, aquaculture, animal production and industrial technologies. This will result in long-term sustainable  outcome and livelihood for a marginalized community.
A.      Propagate and grow bread fruit as alternative food for the farmer and animals
B.      Raise catfish .tilapia  in a backyard pond
C.      Grow root crops and jackfruit
D.      Continue to participate in the waste segregation program in the community
E.      Participate in seminars in the community especially on disaster preparedness

SPECIAL FEATURES:

1. EXPAND COMMUNICATION CAPABILITIES BY CALLING A SOUND AMPLIFIER AND WITHOUT A TECHNICIAN OR HUMAN INTERVENTION, THE MACHINE ACTS ON THE MESSAGE TRANSMISSION THEREBY A FARM MANAGER CAN TALK TO A LARGE GROUP OF FARMERS IN A LARGE AND DISTANT AREA. FEEDBACK CAN ALSO BE HEARD FROM THE LISTENERS.

2. APPLY DIGITAL OR MECHANICAL CONTROL TIMERS TO DISTRIBUTE WATER TO THE PLANT ON SPECIFIC SCHEDULES THEREBY REDUCING TIME AND EFFORT OF FARMERS TO WATER THE PLANT.

3. INSTALL AN INNOVATIVE  METHOD OF FEEDING BIRDS BY PROVIDING FEEDS FOR A WEEKLY OR A NUMBER OF DAYS CONSUMPTION REQUIREMENT INSTEAD OF FEEDING DAILY

4. USE THE WATER FROM A CATFISH FISHPOND TO WATER THE PLANT FOR PLANT FERTILIZER. RAISE FISH THOUGH WITH LIMITED WATER RESOURCE BY RAISING PANTAT OR CATFISH

5. LEARN TO PROPAGATE BREADFRUIT THROUGH MARCOTTING AS PREPARATION FOR DROUGHT. BREADFRUIT CAN WITHSTAND DROUGHT.  DURING STORMY WEATHER, BREADFRUIT REMAIN STEADFAST AND CONTINUE TO BEAR FRUITS FOR BOTH ANIMAL AND HUMAN CONSUMPTION.

6. LEARN THE ADVANTAGES OF PLANTING AND EATING ROOT CROPS FOR HEALTH AND DURING FOOD CRISES. ROOT CROPS ARE NUTRITIOUS AND CAN WITHSTAND CLIMATE CHANGES.

The picture below is a picture of Mr. Jun Lagnason,(by Engr. Roseller R. Balaod) living in a mountainous stony area. With the basic technology in making an above ground  fish pond, he is able to grow water hyacinth as feed for land animals after the fermentation and silage making process. The next step is to make a ferro-cement laminar blocks using cement and lime which is abundant in the area. Utilizing indigenous materials such a bamboo, will make the process less expensive and combined with new technologies will make the pond more durable.

The next stage is to make a simple biogas digester out of the manure of goat, rabbit and guinea pig. There are those who would venture in raising hogs. in this case it will be done through “hog-partment” system and all waste be collected to the biogas for fuel. This will encourage farmers to reduce the use of firewood, thereby saving the trees.

There shall be forage trees that will be planted, such as madre de agua and other forage plants.
It is our view that the farmers in the mountain barangays, will be able to live a little comfortable life. The children will respect the work of their parents and develop to become farmers with higher scientific knowledge and technological competencies and be proud with the dignity and respect accorded to them by the community.

7.     AQUACULTURE NC II IS APPLICABLE IN THIS FARM PLAN AS FISH CAGES CAN ALSO BE SET-UP INSIDE A POND TO FACILITATE CAPTURE AND TRANSFER OF FISH. CONTROL OF ODOR AND WATER QUALITY IS DONE THROUGH CONCOCTIONS AND WATER PLANTS. THIS SHALL ALSO PROVIDE THE MATERIAL FOR THE FISH AMINO ACID, SOURCE OF SILAGE MATERIALS, AND CONTROL OF MOSQUITO,  THE FISH POND SHALL BE ABOVE GROUND TO ENSURE THAT COST IN THE CONSTRUCTION IS LOW UTILIZING APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGY, THIS PRINCIPLE IS BASED ON THE PRACTICE OF ACES POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE SYSTEM UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF DR. FRANCISCO P. DE LA PENA JR. PRES/CEO AND FOUNDER OF THE ACES POLYTECHNIC COLLEGES.
8.     TAKE NOTE OF THE VERTICAL GARDEN, WHICH SHALL ALSO SERVE AS FENCE AS THIS CAN BE UTILIZED IN URBAN SETTING OR A MARGINALIZED FARMER WITH BARELY 50 SQ METERS OF AVAILABLE SPACE
9.     ON A LARGER SPACE, WHICH CAN PROVIDE FOR A COMMUNITY, A SHARED SERVICE FACILITY OR A COMMON SERVICE FACILITY CAN BE SET-UP UTILIZING THE PRINCIPLE OF ACCESSABILITY AND INTEGRATION OF THE SYSTEM. THIS WILL UTILIZE A BIOGAS DIGESTER TO SUPPORT THE CONVERSION OF ANIMAL WASTE TO FERTILIZER AND ELIMINATE THE LONG PROCESS OF PUTREFACTION AND BAD ODOR OF FARM WASTE.
10.   INSTALL OTHER APPROPRIATE TECHNOLOGIES AS NECESSARY RELATIVE TO THE SIZE OF THE FARM, INCLUDING WATER PUMPS, SOLAR POWER,R.
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM OF THE FARM PLAN

AREA 1
HORTICULTURE LEVEL 2
1.     VEGETABLES : THESE VEGETABLES SHOULD BE CHEMICAL FREE AND EASY TO GROW SUCH AS WATERCRESS OR GOTO COLA, SPINACH, KANGKONG, MORINGA, AND OTHER VEGETABLES WITH HIGH VITAMIN AND MINERAL CONTENT
2.     FLOWER GARDEN :   FLOWERS OR PLANTS  THAT ARE EASY TO GROW WITH MEDICINAL QUALITIES
3.     PLANT NURSERY FOR BREAD FRUIT, LANGKA , CACAO, COFFEE AND OTHER FRUIT BEARING TREES

AREA 3
ANIMAL RAISING AREA

1.     RUMINANTS
2.     FREE RANGE POULTRY
3.     BIRDS  OR  AVIARY

These three areas show  the concern for the environment of the technology applied in the farm. There will also be vermiculture to support horticulture, There shall also be biogas digester depending on the size of the area and the number of animals in area 3 to hasten the conversion of animal waste to fertilizer.

In a larger area, the biogas digester shall serve a  major role in the animal waste conversion to  fertilizer.  There will also be a concoction area, to ensure continuous availability of plant fertilizer and animal vitamins and minerals.

This  Farm Plan  Is a component to the Application of Science And Technology to Natural Farming and Organic Agriculture System with Intellectual Property Certificate Number  0-2016-0492 Issued By The Intellectual Property Office Of The Republic Of The Philippines

This whole system covers HORTICULTURE LEVEL 2 TECHNOLOGY as HORTICULTURE LEVEL 1 TECHNOLOGY is for farmers who love to plant but do not have the opportunity to undergo training or the uneducated farmer.

We are including the HORTICULTURE LEVEL 2 in this copyrighted document as the Training Regulation of TESDA on HORTICULTURE focuses on HORTICULTURE NC III with competencies in mixing chemicals and weed control. We believe that these are higher levels of competencies and core competencies are directed towards large and intensive production of vegetables and fruits.

It is also important to note that the ANIMAL PRODUCTION NC II which was replaced by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, TESDA , involves the raising of poultry, small and large ruminants and swine.  It is appropriate in an integrated system as one form of animal can support the feeding requirement of the other animals without necessarily intruding into the genetic system,

This farm plan is unique in itself as there are electronic controls that will be installed to control water flow and distribution inside the farm. Other appropriate technologies will also be installed with the principle that farmers must be scientifically educated and technology knowledgeable to reduce labor and time on farm work. Farmers should also enjoy the benefits of new technologies and improve their dignity as farmers.

The farm plan as presented is generally designed for the marginalized farmers. There are families that need to remain together and find difficulties in situations where members of the family go to urban centers to find work to earn money and buy food. This farm will provide the farmer families with the basic requirements of dignified life free from the pressures of time and fast pace urban life. Illustrations below indicate the above ground fish pond model with corresponding dimensions and a computer aided design of the model farm covering 150 square meters

Mr Marion Boy Mahilum  of Maguugmad Foundation inc, partner of ASKEDWELL in Tabayag, Argao, Cebu

THE TRAINEES OF MAGUUGMAD FOUNDATION INC AND ASKEDWELL CENTER UNDERGO A FARM PLANNING PROCESS. THE PROCESS UNDERGOES THREE STAGES. FIRST ON EASEL SHEET. NEXT IN CARD BOARD AS TABLE MODEL THEN IN A  SMALL FARM OR50 -SQIARE MODEL FARM  UTILIZING   TECHNIQUES IN USING NETS  CONVERTED FROM DIAGONAL TO SQUARE MESH DESIGN.

THIS FISHING NET HAS A DIAGONAL DESIGN AND WHEN STRETCHED HORIZONTALLY AND VERTICALLY  THE SIZE OF THE HOLES OR EYES ARE REDUCED..  CONVERTING IT TO SQUARE MESH KEEPS THE SIZES SQUARE EVEN WHEN PULLED HORIZONTALLY OR VERTICALLY.

DR. SILVANO B. MARANGA AND MR. MARIO MAHILUM OF MAG UUGMAD FOUNDATION EXPLAINING THE NEED TO LEARN THE SQUARE MESH TECHNOLOGY AND FERRO CEMENT IN LAMINAR PROCESS FOR THE FARMERS

IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO USE FERR0- -CEMENT TECHNOLOGY IN LAMINAR DESIGN TO MAKE ABOVE GROUND FISH POND OR OTHER DESIGNS WHICH USE CEMENT OR HOLLOW BLOCKS. THIS WILL REDUCE THE COST AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE CEMENT BLOCKS OR PANELS.

CUTTING AND DESIGNING THE WOOD FRAMES AND THE WIRE MESH IS IMPORTANT TO THE FINAL RESULT OF THE ABOVE GROUND FISH POND. HERE TRAINEES CUT AND FORM THE FERRO-CEMENT SLABS

DR. SILVANO B. MARANGA, EXPLAINING THE PROCESS IN MAKING SLABS USING THE FERRO-CEMENT TECHNOLOGY IN LAMINAR DESIGN. THIS IS USEFUL IN MAKING ABOVE GROUND FISH POND FOR THE CAT FISH AND TILAPIA

MAKING THE SLABS IS EASIER IN THE GROUND THAN THE VERTICAL TECHNIQUE IN A WIRE AND CEMENT PROCESS

THE PROCESS IS SIMPLE AND WOMEN WITHOUT EXPERIENCE IN MASONRY WORK CAN DO THIS. BUILD AN ABOVE GROUND FISH POND USING FERRO-CEMENT TECHNOLOGY IN LAMINAR PROCESS

THIS IS THE SIMPLIFIED WAY OF PREPARING THE NET FOR CONVERSION FROM DIAGONAL MESH TO SQUARE MESH
